The Houstonian Online, the student newspaper of Sam Houston State University has issued an update/retraction of its Nov. 14, 2006 article that stated "several statements indicated that criminal mischief charges had been filed against former Sam Houston student Ashlyn Carr. In fact, according to theDistrict Attorney's office, no charges will be pursued as long as Carr makes restitution for the damages.
" 'She was arrested, but we will not be filing the case. She'll be making restitution for the damages,' Walker County District Attorney David Weeks said on Friday, February 9. The Houstonian would like to apologize for any misleading material that appeared in the article."
CARRIE UNDERWOOD WINS 2 GRAMMY AWARDS
Season 5 winner Carrie Underwood received two Grammy Awards during the 49th annual ceremony held in Los Angeles last night. She won Female Country Vocal Performance for her recording of "Jesus, Take the Wheel." The song also won the “Best Country Song” Grammy for its songwriters Brett James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson. Underwood was also selected overall Best New Artist. Accepting the award, she paid homage to the show that shot her to superstardom:
“This is absolutely unbelievable. Uh, there’s so much…I love country music first of all. There’s so many people to thank. I’m going to start at the top, thank you God, thank you mom and dad, thank you Simon Fuller who created the show 'American Idol' that got me here. I owe everything to Simon Fuller and 19.”
